Translate Text to Binary
Convert text to and from binary, hex, octal, or decimal character codes — both directions, in your browser.
Runs entirely in your browser — nothing you type is uploaded or logged. UTF-8 mode gives true 8-bit groups and round-trips any Unicode, including emoji.
About Translate Text to Binary.
Translate Text to Binary — and Back
Type text and read it as binary, hexadecimal, octal, or decimal character codes — or paste the code the other way and get the text back. Binary output comes in clean 8-bit groups, and you pick the delimiter (space, comma, newline, or your own) so the result drops straight into whatever you're building.
Unicode is handled properly, not just plain ASCII. In UTF-8 mode every character — accents, symbols, emoji — encodes to real 8-bit bytes and round-trips exactly, so "Hello 👋" comes back byte-for-byte. Switch to code-point mode when you'd rather have one group per character holding its raw Unicode number. Decoding is forgiving: it reads groups separated by spaces, commas, or newlines, ignores 0x / 0b / 0o prefixes, splits an unbroken run of digits into bytes, and tells you exactly which groups it couldn't read instead of guessing.
One honest note: code-point mode with no delimiter can't always be reversed for characters wider than one byte, because nothing marks where one number ends and the next begins. For those, keep a delimiter or use UTF-8 bytes — the tool flags the case when it comes up.
Common Use Cases
- Learn how encoding works: See exactly which bits and bytes make up a letter, an emoji, or an accented character.
- Decode a binary or hex dump: Paste a string of 0s and 1s, or hex bytes, from a log, a puzzle, or a homework problem and read the text it spells.
- Build test data: Generate the binary, hex, or decimal form of a string to hard-code into a fixture or a low-level test.
- Debug character issues: Compare a string's UTF-8 bytes against its Unicode code points to track down mojibake or an encoding mismatch.
- CTF and puzzles: Flip between bases and delimiters fast to crack a "convert this" challenge without hunting for a new tool each time.
- Teaching and worksheets: Produce matching text-and-binary pairs for a class, with a chosen delimiter and optional uppercase hex.
Privacy: This tool runs entirely in your browser using plain JavaScript. Nothing you type is uploaded, stored, or logged — the conversion happens on your own device, and it keeps working offline once the page has loaded.
