About Duotone an Image.

Turn Any Photo Into a Two-Color Duotone

A duotone maps every pixel of an image to a blend of just two colors based on its brightness — dark areas take your shadow color, bright areas take your highlight color, and everything in between is interpolated. Drop in a photo, pick the two colors, and this tool rebuilds it live on a canvas so you can dial the look in real time.

Everything runs in your browser. Your image is never uploaded, there is no account or watermark, and you can preview and re-color as many times as you like before you download. Start from a preset like Midnight, Sepia, or Cyanotype, or type exact hex values for a brand-matched pair, then push the contrast slider from a soft, flat wash to a punchy near-threshold graphic.

One honest note: this is a global brightness-to-color map, not a per-region edit — it recolors the whole image at once. Exports are saved as PNG, and very large images are capped (4096px on the long edge, 2048px on phones) to stay within browser memory.

Common Use Cases

  • Brand imagery: Recolor stock or team photos into your exact brand colors for a consistent site, deck, or social feed.
  • Music-cover look: Recreate the bold two-tone portrait style used for playlist, podcast, and album artwork.
  • Poster backgrounds: Flatten a busy photo into a single-mood backdrop that headline text sits cleanly on top of.
  • Unified galleries: Apply the same shadow/highlight pair across many images so they read as one series.
  • Two-ink print previews: See how a photo reads when reduced to a shadow ink and a highlight ink before sending art to press.
  • Section hero art: Drop the contrast for a subtle duotone tint, or raise it for a high-impact graphic edge.

Privacy: This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your image is decoded, recolored, and exported on your own device — nothing is ever uploaded to a server.
