Turn a Photo Into ASCII Art

Drop in an image and this tool rebuilds it out of text characters. It box-averages the picture down to one sample per character cell, reads the brightness of each cell, and picks a glyph from a light-to-dark ramp — the same technique behind classic terminal art. Choose how many characters wide the output is, swap the ramp (a clean 10-step set, block characters, or a detailed 70-level ramp), invert the brightness, and switch between plain monospace and full color.

Everything happens in your browser on a native canvas — the image is never uploaded, there is no sign-up, and there is no watermark. You get the result as selectable monospace text you can copy straight into a README, a chat message, or a code comment, plus a rendered PNG for when you want the exact look preserved.

One honest note: ASCII art reads best from high-contrast subjects with a clear silhouette (a face, a logo, a bold object) rather than busy, low-contrast scenes. Very wide outputs pack in more detail but shrink the on-screen preview, and colored output is a rendered image — the copy and .txt buttons always give you plain characters.
