About Compare PDFs.

See the Differences Between Two PDF Files

Upload two PDFs and CipherForces PDF Compare shows the differences in two modes:

  • Visual mode: Renders each page of both PDFs at the same resolution and tints differing pixels red, so you can see at a glance where anything changed — text, layout, images, or spacing.
  • Text mode: Extracts text from both PDFs using pdf.js and runs a line-level diff, marking added and removed lines per page.

Comparison runs page-by-page on the shared page range; if the two PDFs have different page counts, the extra pages are noted but not diffed. Runs entirely in-browser — neither PDF is uploaded.

Common Use Cases

  • Contract redlines: Spot layout and text changes between two versions of a legal agreement.
  • Editorial review: Compare a draft and a revised manuscript.
  • Compliance audit: Verify changes between two dated policy documents.
  • Invoice reconciliation: Confirm vendor line-item changes month-over-month.

Key Features

  • Visual pixel diff: Rendered overlay showing every visual change, including image and layout shifts.
  • Text line diff: Line-by-line added/removed highlights extracted from the PDF text stream.
  • Side-by-side view: Left = file A, right = file B, with synchronized scrolling.
  • Page-count warning: If A and B have different numbers of pages, the tool flags the mismatch so you don’t miss trailing changes.

Privacy: Both PDFs are parsed and compared locally. Neither uploads.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

How do I compare two PDFs to see what changed?

Open the Compare PDFs tool, add your original PDF and the revised PDF, then choose visual pixel-level or text line-level mode. The tool diffs each page side by side and highlights every change. You can step through pages one at a time to spot edits, additions, and deletions.

Is it safe to compare confidential PDFs in this tool?

Yes. The comparison runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly, so neither PDF is ever uploaded to a server. Your files stay on your own device the whole time. There is no signup and no account, which makes it suitable for contracts, legal drafts, and other sensitive documents.

What is the difference between pixel-level and text-level PDF diff?

Pixel-level diff compares the rendered image of each page, catching layout, formatting, font, and image changes. Text line-level diff compares the extracted words line by line, which is better for tracking wording edits. Pick pixel mode for design changes and text mode for content revisions.

Can I compare two PDFs for free without installing software?

Yes. Compare PDFs is free and runs directly in your web browser, so there is nothing to download or install. It works on any modern browser, requires no signup, and lets you diff two PDFs page by page at no cost.
