About Remove Vocals.
Remove Vocals with Center-Channel Cancellation
Most songs place the lead vocal dead-center in the stereo mix, so it sits equally in the left and right channels. This tool subtracts one channel from the other, cancelling whatever is centered and leaving the hard-panned instruments behind. Drop a stereo track, choose Remove or Keep vocals, adjust the strength, and download a WAV.
Be clear-eyed about what this is: a decades-old phase-cancellation trick, not AI stem separation. It is instant and runs entirely in your browser, but it is blunt. Bass and drums are usually centered too, so they get thinned. Reverb-soaked or stereo-widened vocals survive because they are not truly centered. And a mono file has no left-minus-right difference to cancel, so it simply will not work. Results vary a lot from one song to the next.
Because it uses the browser's built-in Web Audio API, there is nothing to install and no large audio engine to download the first time you use it. If you need a genuinely clean split of voice from music, a dedicated AI stem separator will do better — this tool is the fast, private, offline option for a rough result.
Common Use Cases
- Karaoke tracks: Strip the lead vocal from a well-panned pop or rock song to sing over the instrumental yourself.
- Practice backing tracks: Mute the vocal so you can rehearse your own part against the band.
- Rough acapella: Switch to Keep vocals to push the centered voice forward for a quick, artifact-prone vocal-only bed.
- Sampling and remixing: Pull a usable-enough instrumental or vocal snippet to sketch an idea before committing to paid stem tools.
- Cover-song rehearsal: Learn phrasing and timing with the original vocal turned down instead of fully absent.
- Mix inspection: Listen to the side channel alone to hear how wide a mix really is and what was panned where.
