Deep dive

About Volume Booster.

Make Any Audio File Louder — In Your Browser

Drop in an MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, or FLAC and this tool decodes it, measures its true peak level, and lets you raise the volume two ways: boost by a fixed amount in decibels, or normalize the whole file so its loudest moment hits a target level (0 dBFS is as loud as a file can go without clipping). It shows you the current peak and the boosted peak before you commit, then renders a lossless 16-bit WAV you can preview and download.

Unlike the "volume boosters" that ask you to upload your file to a server, this one runs entirely in your browser using the Web Audio API. Your audio never leaves your device, there's no account, no watermark, and no queue. Because it re-renders to uncompressed WAV, a boost never re-compresses your audio — you don't stack a second round of lossy artifacts on top of the original.

One honest caveat: pushing a peak past 0 dBFS can't add real headroom, so the loudest samples get hard-limited and may distort — the tool warns you before that happens and reports exactly how many samples clipped. WAV output is uncompressed, so a long file downloads larger than its MP3 source; if you need it small again, run it back through our Audio Converter.

  • Quiet voice memo: Bring an under-recorded interview or lecture up to a usable listening level.
  • Even out a playlist: Normalize tracks that were mastered too quietly so they sit at the same peak as the rest.
  • Podcast prep: Lift a soft guest track before you drop it into your editor, without re-encoding.
  • Presentation and video audio: Boost a faint narration clip so it's audible over a room or a laptop speaker.
  • Field recordings: Rescue nature or ambient captures made with the gain set too low.
  • Safe headroom: Normalize to −1 or −2 dBFS instead of 0 to leave a margin that keeps lossy players from clipping on playback.

Privacy: This tool runs entirely in your browser. Your audio is decoded, boosted, and re-encoded on your own device — nothing is uploaded, stored, or sent anywhere.
